Microneedling Preparation Guidelines

21 Days Before Treatment

  • Laser treatments: Avoid any laser treatments for at least 21 days prior to your appointment.

2 Weeks Before Treatment

  • Other facial treatments: Avoid all other facial or aesthetic treatments for at least 2 weeks before your microneedling session.

  • Tanning: Avoid extensive sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
(We strongly recommend avoiding tanning beds altogether, as they increase the risk of skin cancer and accelerate premature skin aging.)

7 Days Before Treatment

  • Sun exposure: Avoid UV exposure and direct sun for 7 days before treatment.

  • Hair removal: Avoid hair removal treatments for at least 1 week prior to your session, including waxing, laser, or depilatory creams.
(Shaving is acceptable if done gently and without causing cuts or irritation.)

5 Days Before Treatment

  • Active skincare products: Discontinue the use of active topicals that may increase skin sensitivity, including retinoids, exfoliants, acids, or topical antibiotics, for 5 days before treatment.

3 Days Before Treatment

  • Anti-inflammatory medications: Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen for 3 days prior to your session, as they can interfere with the natural inflammatory process essential for skin rejuvenation.

What to Expect After Microneedling

Redness
Redness after your treatment is completely normal and can last up to 3 days, although most clients find it subsides within 24 hours. If your skin looks very red immediately after your appointment, please don’t panic this is actually a positive response.

Please do not take anti-inflammatory medications (unless directed by your doctor) to speed up healing, as these interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is essential for skin rejuvenation.

Dryness & Tightness
It is also normal to experience dryness, tightness, and mild flaking following treatment. Everyone’s skin responds differently to microneedling. The active ingredients used during treatment are highly beneficial, but if your skin is not accustomed to them, some initial dryness may occur.

If your skin becomes very dry, it may feel slightly itchy. An antihistamine can be taken for a day or two if needed. Healing time is influenced not only by your body, but also by your home skincare routine.

As a general guideline, avoid retinals, acids, and harsh ingredients for at least 3 days post-treatment. If your skin is still red, dry, or sensitive after this time, continue avoiding these products until your skin has fully calmed.

You may notice temporary redness when exposed to heat, and mild sensitivity or tingling for a few days.

Purging
Over the next few days, you may notice a few small spots appear. This is not a breakout, it is a process known as purging, and it’s actually a good sign.

Purging occurs when microneedling accelerates cell turnover, causing congestion beneath the skin (such as oil and debris) to rise to the surface more quickly. Once this clears, healthier, clearer, and more youthful-looking skin is revealed.
