Microneedling: Contraindications & Restrictions

Microneedling may not be suitable if you currently have, or have recently had, any of the following. If you are unsure whether microneedling is suitable for you, please book a complimentary consultation before making an appointment.

Absolute: You must NOT perform microneedling. Full stop.

  • x Cancer

  • x Malignant tumours

  • x Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • x Any contagious or transmittable diseases

  • x Chronic inflammatory skin conditions

  • x Keloid or excessive hypertrophic scarring

  • x Haemophilia or other cardiac abnormalities or bleeding disorders

  • x Autoimmune disorders or immunosuppression

  • x Dysfunction of the nervous system

  • x Tuberculosis or liver function issues

  • X Epilepsy

  • x Disorders of collagen formation such as scleroderma

  • x Medications such as those for blood disorders and steroids

  • x Blood thinning medication

  • x Prescription retinoids such as isotretinoin

  • Allergy to stainless steel

RELATIVE: Treatment may be possible, but not today or not without caution / clearance

  • Health or medical concerns that require medical approval such as irregular blood

  • pressure

  • Unwell within the last 2 weeks with a cold or flu virus

  • Medication such as isotretinion within 6 months to 1 year from last dose

  • Medication that would affect the characteristics of the skin within 2 months

  • Aspirin

  • Facelift or eyelid surgery within the past year

  • Major operation scars less than 2 years old on the treated area

  • De rmabrasion, re mode ling, deep chemical peels or surgical procedure with the

  • last 3 months

  • Professional re surfacing, dermaplaning or superficial chemical peel within the last

  • 14-28 days

  • IPL or laser procedures within the last 14 days

  • Excessively tanned or sunburnt skin from uv exposure or tanning creams within

  • the last 2 weeks

  • Dermal filler and neuromodulator (Botox) administration within 14 days

  • Facial waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis within the last 5 days

  • Alcohol or caffeine consumption within the last 24-48 hours

  • Facial shaving within the last 24 hours

  • Retinoid use within 3 days

Chronic stress

LOCAL: You cannot treat THAT AREA, but may treat other areas

  • x Facial melanosis

  • x Active acne, actinic solar keratosis or rosacea

  • x Herpes simplex

  • x Raised moles, warts, skin lesions and scarring

  • x Open cuts, wounds, abrasions and bruises.

  • x Capillary ectasia

  • x Botox, collagen, fat or other methods of augmentation within 4 weeks

  • x Undiagnosed lumps, inflammation or swelling

  • x Mild or occasional eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis

  • x Piercings in the area
